Birmingham City close to takeover
A takeover of Birmingham City today moved a step closer with the club set to name their preferred bidder.
Following a board meeting of parent company Birmingham International Holdings Limited, it is understood BIHL directors are ready to name a preferred bidder from the interested parties they have been talking to.
But one of the British-based groups – which includes local businessmen and last month made a £32m proposal – could be left empty-handed. BIHL chiefs have been discussing a potential deal with up to five consortia. Two are understood to be British-based or British-driven, with others from the Middle East, Far East and Australasia.
Sources say the return to Hong Kong of Blues and BIHL director Panos Pavlakis at the start of the week after the meeting is significant.
Blues' on-field struggles, which saw them only secure their Championship status on the final day of the season, has held up the process.
