Evergreen Birmingham striker Kevin Phillips has warned Sunderland he's as fit as ever ahead of the visit of his former club.

Phillips made his name as a Premier League striker and became a folk hero on Wearside in a six-year spell, scoring 134 goals in 239 games between 1997 and 2003.

Now the 37-year-old is set to come across Sunderland again as he is expected to keep his place in the Blues team that faces the free-falling Black Cats at St. Andrew's tomorrow.

And the former Albion and Villa marksman - who turns 38 in July - is feeling back to his old self.

He said: "I'm feeling really fit - in the best shape I've felt all season.

"Straight after the game finishes on a Saturday, I rest on Sunday and then on Monday I'm starting to prepare for the following game as all top pros do.

"Perhaps I wasn't doing that earlier on in the season because I knew I wouldn't be playing at the weekend.

"But now I feel I have an opportunity of playing, I'm starting to look after myself even more.

"I have tended to do that all my career."
