Injury costs Miguel Francis in Doha
Miguel Francis’s World Athletics Championship ended in disappointment after he was forced to withdraw from the semi-finals of the 200m in Doha.
The Wolverhampton & Bilston AC athlete had qualified fourth fastest from the heats, with British team-mate Adam Gemili topping the first-round time sheets.
But while Gemili was storming into the final in a new season’s best of 20.03 seconds, Francis was forced to watch from the sidelines after suffering a quad strain during the heats.
Zharnel Hughes finished third in his semi-final in 20.30s, just missing out on the final.
Women’s 100m silver medallist Dina Asher-Smith cruised into the 200m semi-finals.
