The defender has enjoyed his most consistent sequence of games for the Saddlers after making four starts in the last five games.

Weir had been restricted to just a single league start prior to the end of 2024 but impressed in a 2-1 win at Notts County on New Year's Day.

The Irishman still had to bide his time as just one more start from the next 12 games followed but he is now relishing his new found place in the XI.

"Just to be patient and keep myself right," Weir explained when asked what is the biggest lesson he has learned at Walsall so far.

"Come into training and work hard every day because I thought I took my chance at Notts County when it finally came.

"That was because of my preparation in the gym, in training and behind the scenes in the months before."

Taylor Allen has been the preferred choice at left centre-back and Weir's recent clutch of games have predominantly stemmed from Mat Sadler deploying Allen at left wing-back or as a central midfielder.
