An emergency signing back in 2022 on the back of an injury to Daryl Dike, the former England, Liverpool and Newcastle man arrived to do a job for Albion in the 2021/22 campaign.
He may have only netted three goals in 15 outings in a pretty forgettable spell, but he was well thought of by the Baggies fans.
Since then the experienced forward returned to Reading, before moving out to play in France.
And last summer he rocked up at financially hit Bordeaux, who had endured years of issues of the field and found themselves in the fourth tier of French football after giving up their professional status.
Carroll signed for the French side, and there was much speculation regarding how much he was beng paid.
In an interview after moving to the club from SC Aimens, Carroll said: "I won’t tell you the exact figure but to give you an idea, since I moved here, I rent a pretty little house and my salary is less than my rent. If I joined Bordeaux, it clearly wasn’t for the money. I had offers from elsewhere to play in Saudi Arabia, but that didn’t interest me."
Now an investigation by L'Equipe has uncovered the real extent of Carroll's deal in France - and it makes for intriguing reading but not for eye watering sums, but the opposite.
He is earning around 1,400 Euros per month in net pay - with the minimum wages in France for 35 hours of work a week currently being at 1,801 Euros.
He is technically a part time player in France, with his salary equating to around £1,200 per month.
