The on-loan Southampton hitman, a dramatic late deadline day recruit, has been one of the Championship's top marksmen and was allowed to leave the top-flight strugglers for the Baggies in a bid to rekindle some confidence in front of goal.

Armstrong, 28, netted a fine debut goal against Sheffield Wednesday and since added a penalty to his Albion haul of two goals in eight starts.

Mowbray said: "Maybe Adam’s down on confidence – I’m not sure.
