Wildsmith, 29, caught the eye with some strong late saves in Saturday's 1-1 home draw against Hull in response to a midweek error at Burnley as Mowbray's men also drew.

The former Sheffield Wednesday and Derby goalkeeper was a free transfer recruit from the latter last season and served as Alex Palmer's back-up until his move to Ipswich, which is worth up to £5million.

Wildsmith has been preferred to recalled Albion academy graduate Josh Griffiths by Mowbray and has played in all eight games since. He has achieved two clean sheets in that time, as well as strong displays at Millwall and against Hull. Mowbray has not laid blame at his door for goals against Blackburn or Leeds.

"There have been games where he hasn't had a save to make which is why when he did have a save to make and spilled it a bit of criticism came his way," Mowbray said.
