Mowbray was appointed to turn the Baggies into an attacking force following a more cautious way of coaching under predecessor Carlos Corberan.

Form under the returning head coach was mixed in the early weeks with Albion beaten by Middlesbrough, Plymouth and Blackburn but Mowbray has since guided an unbeaten run of five games with a return of nine points from 15 after Tuesday's impressive draw at Burnley.

Asked if he felt the progress in the last handful of games, Mowbray replied:  "I'm a fan of Carlos and he played slightly different to how I do, he set his team up differently.

"Yet when I got here they were fifth or sixth in the Championship and we still are. We're maintaining that sort of form, just playing a different way.

"The players are coming round to my way of playing now. It was a bit of a struggle early on because they were a bit stuck between playing on the front foot, being aggressive, stepping forward rather than back, because they'd been coached to play in a block and make it tough for teams.

"The lads told me the first Burnley game was a bore draw at home, 0-0, but this was a decent football match, two teams trying to win."

Albion's standing in the Championship reckoning has not altered too much since the change of head coach. They climbed a place to fifth in midweek, above resurgent Coventry, after a rare falter for Frank Lampard's Sky Blues.

Saturday's visit of lowly Hull, who have 24 hours less rest for the weekend having welcomed Oxford to Humberside on Wednesday night, sees the Baggies into the spring international break.

Following that is the final eight games of the regulation season and a starter away at Norwich, who down in 11th and seven points off sixth have lost ground in the play-off race.

Albion still have to face Sunderland, Bristol City and Coventry in the final month of the campaign. That trio currently sit fourth, seventh and sixth.
