Walsall midfielder Ryan Stirk was poised to embark on the next phase of his career in 2023. Summer was fast approaching and his deal at Birmingham City had ticked into its final six months.

The midfielder, who spent 13 years with the Blues, had been restricted to just 23 minutes in the Championship during his final campaign.

It'd been over five months since he kicked a ball in a competitive game until Bromley came knocking.

By then, Stirk had become a father for the first time, but it was a chance he had to take.

"I needed that at the time, I needed to get out of Birmingham," Stirk reflects. "I needed to play games and get minutes elsewhere to set me up for the following season.

"I hadn't played much at all during that season. Then it came to February and I had the opportunity to go down to Bromley.
