Walsall set to extend Ronan Maher's Tamworth loan

Walsall youngster Ronan Maher is set to have his loan spell at National League side Tamworth extended by another month - boss Mat Sadler has revealed.

Maher re-joined Tamworth on a 28-day loan in February after his first stint was curtailed by an ankle injury in December.

The 20-year-old has made 11 appearances across all competitions during his two spells at the Lamb, scoring twice and setting up three more.

Sadler said: "If it hasn't been extended then it will be soon. This weekend is the final game and then it gets extended after that.

"We want to do that because I want him to play games at a really good level and I want him to show what he is all about.

"I want him to be ready and he can only do that by going out and playing minutes."

The midfielder made eight appearances for Walsall in all competitions earlier in the campaign but was restricted to a pair of cameos from the bench in the league.

He has predominantly played out wide for Tamworth and Sadler feels that his versatility will leave him in good stead for the future.

"Ronan has played as an eight for us, he has played as a wing-back for us, he has played as a 10 and now he is playing as a wide man," the Walsall boss continued.

"That's really useful for any young player. I started my career as a centre-back but you get in the first team as a left-back and you go with that.

"Sometimes that's the way it is. So playing in multiple positions is always a good thing to give yourself the best chance of being selected."
