The Baggies already led through Adam Armstrong when Darnell Furlong was shown a straight red card for an alleged elbow in first-half stoppage time.

It meant for a second half full of defending for Tony Mowbray's side, but the Baggies excelled in front of their own fans and limited the Rs to very few efforts at goal.

Albion correspondent Lewis Cox rates the performers in an important win.

Joe Wildsmith

Decent with his footwork and distribution in finding full-backs out wide. Handled balls into the area well and held on to late low shot comfortably. Good clean sheet.

Solid 7

Darnell Furlong

The right-back had started the game relatively well. He was involved in the build-up to the penalty and was on the front foot. Referee Adam Herczeg saw what Mowbray describe as a shoulder barge to leave him no choice with the dismissal.

Harsh 6

Kyle Bartley

Second game back in the side and back with aplomb. Leeds was good but this was excellent. It suited Bartley, in terms of several balls into the box, but he was a giant figure for Albion. Exactly as Mowbray said the side lacked.
