Walsall went in front inside the first six minutes when Ellis Harrison opened the scoring at the end of a quick breakaway.
But Jayden Luker was afforded an abyss of space on the edge of the box to finish into the bottom corner after Walsall switched off from Jason Svanthorsson's short free-kick.
Danny Rose put Grimsby ahead from the spot before the break and Luker broke in behind to latch on to Kieran Green's through ball and finish past Tommy Simkin.
Boss Sadler said: "Having gone in front, we did well to work the opportunity for that. The disappointment was the moments of the goals.
