Taylor Allen opened the scoring inside seven minutes when he brought down Ryan Stirk's looped pass and tucked a delightful half-volley inside the near post.
Carlisle responded midway into the first half when Aaron Hayden headed home Elliot Embleton's in-swinging corner.
Walsall had chances to take home maximum points with Allen and Jamie Jellis forcing good stops from Carlisle goalkeeper Gabe Breeze while Charlie Lakin crashed another effort against the post.
They did at least extend their lead over Notts County in fourth spot to 10 points but they stretched their run of form to just two wins in the last 10 games in League Two.
When asked if he is concerned by recent form, Sadler said: "No, not at all. I think every season has its ups and downs. Any team that wins the league has one or two dips in the season, any team that finishes in the top three will have maybe three or four.
