Junior Firpo's ninth minute header was cancelled out by Darnell Furlong before the break - as Albion came back from an early blow to level.
They had other openings in the first half, and in the second half, despite having to keep Leeds at bay as they soaked up pressure, they had a go and pushed late on.
Jonny Drury looks at three key points from the game:
A Swift chance - did he take it?
The team selection unsurprisingly drew a bit of criticism, with John Swift added into the starting side.
Many saw possibly Ousmane Diakite coming in to aid the midfield against a potent Leeds attack, but Mowbray went for Swift, who he has built up in the press over the last few weeks.
He, by his own admission, probably hasn't been at his best this season, but it was another chance to show his new boss that he could do a job for him.
Did he take that chance? To a large extent, yes, he did. Swift picked up an assist for Darnell Furlong's equaliser, and played a hand in a lot of attacking moves certainly in the first half.
In the second, he faded a little after taking a knock and came off just after the hour.
But it was better from Swift, there is no doubt about that. Did he light the game up? No I wouldn't go that far, but it was better and he justified his selection. He's shown Mowbray what he can do, the challenge now is consistency.
