The former Albion youngster, who signed for Villa from Barcelona, joined the Championship side in January, after netting 15 league goals during a spell with League One Stockport County earlier in the season.
Barry was recalled by Villa and handed a step up a division to the relegation threatened Tigers - but limped off before half time in their 1-0 win at Sunderland on Saturday.
The forward has only made four appearances for the club, but now returns to Villa for rehabilitation following his injury set back.
The Championship side are hopeful he can return to aid their survival fight, and said in a statement: "The forward will return to his parent club Aston Villa to undergo rehabilitation, with the Tigers hopeful that he could feature for Ruben Selles' side again this season.
"We wish Louie all the best for his recovery."
Barry, who has been on a number of loan moves during his time at Villa, posted on X: "Absolutely gutted but I'll work hard to get back and help the team achieve our target."
