Villa's defeat in London was a big hit to their Champions League qualification chances - although the situation remains for a European spot.
They will have collectively been hurting from the defeat, but it might sting more for Villa's England internationals, with the defeat coming in front of newly appointed England boss Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel, who took over late last year, will be in charge of England for the first time in the upcoming international break.
He has been criticised recently for watching players and games remotely, as part of his England contract, but he was in the stands at Selhurst Park with a number of potential England picks turning out for Villa.
He would have been happy with some of what he saw, with Morgan Rogers, who currently has two senior caps to his name, added to his goal tally for the campaign with a classy equaliser.
Ollie Watkins was another who impressed, playing a hand in Rogers' disallowed goal earlier in the game.
There were others who appeared, including Ezri Konsa, who along with the Villa back three had a night to forget as they shipped four goals.
Elsewhere, Jacob Ramsey, who is yet to receive a full senior call up, came off just after the hour mark.
And the other point of interest is Marcus Rashford, who was a 68th minute substitute in the game.
Rashford has been missing from a number of England squads in the last year, following his well documented problems at Old Trafford with his parent club Manchester United.
Elsewhere, Tuchel has also reportedly met with Villa fan Prince William ahead of taking charge for the first time next month.
The Prince arranged a private one on one meeting with the ex-Chelsea head coach, in his role as president of the FA.
The hour long meeting saw Tuchel share his views on England players and his hopes for the future.
