West Brom boss drops double striker indication amid options up top

Tony Mowbray may not have an embarrassment of riches in his striking department - but he certainly has more options than when he walked through the door.

Mowbray arrived at The Hawthorns on the back of Albion losing Josh Maja to injury.

The absence of Albion's top scorer left Mowbray with just Devante Cole as an option - but the summer signing has hardly been used following his arrival.

In his opening games in charge, Mowbray played without a recognised striker, outlining the lack of options Albion had in that department.

However, after a fruitful transfer window and the return of long term absentee Daryl Dike, he now has assets he can use.

Dike is unable to start games at the moment, however the signings of Will Lankshear and Adam Armstrong have given Mowbray food for thought when it comes to his selection.

So far he has opted for one up front, with Lankshear leading the line against Millwall and Armstrong out on the left flank.

However, Mowbray dropped a hint that he may look to mix things up at some point.

He said: "With Armstrong I have to assess whether we play two strikers up top at some point.

"Whether that is Lankshear, or then Dike alongside Adam, or Adam on the left.

"If you play two big strikers, are you just booting it from the back, or do you want wingers to cross plenty of balls into the box.

"There are plenty of ways to play, and it is good we have different options.

"We gave fast ones, technical, big strong lads.

"I go back to how you pick a team to win the next game. No one moans when you win, but when you pick an idea and go with it to win a certain game and you don't, then everyone will tell you what you should have done."
