Belgrade slip up as AFC Bradmore take top spot for the first time
Wolverhampton & District Sunday League title challengers Belgrade slipped further from the top two after suffering a 3-2 defeat at home to Warstones Wanderers AFC, writes Dan Hickey.
Belgrade’s Antoine Julien took an early lead in the Division One fixture on eight minutes, however Warstones were quick to equalise three minutes later through Luqman Wirba.
The sides went into the break at 1-1, but the visitors quickly took the lead through Josh Carvel and an own goal.
Liam Colley pulled one back for Belgrade, however they couldn’t find and equaliser. The win sees Warstones climb to sixth ahead of Connaught United.
AFC Bradmore took the top spot for the first time this season, dethroning Victoria by beating Connaught 4-1.
They sit two points clear in first, however second-placed Victoria have five games in hand over the challengers, having scored four goals more and conceded 24 fewer.
AFC Jacks were held to a 3-3 draw at home to Vybez Warstones Wanderers, who are bottom of the division.
Vybez’ Joscelyn Allen bagged a brace on the day, while Shaquille Ologitere added to the tally.
AFC Willenhall remain top of Division Two after beating bottom-side Royal Oak Chapel Ash 3-2. Alex Banks, Dan Hopson and Louie Mason scored the winning goals.
Black Country Blades came out on top at home to Tettenhall, winning 4-0 as Tyler Goodyear and Connor Stokes netted braces.
Warstones Wanderers WN stay third after defeating Dynamo 50 Stile 5-0. Connor Forrester and Rodney Williams netted two each, with Brandon Jukes also scoring.
Bradley Welding netted four and Craig Ruston bagged three as Division Three’s HTFC dispatched of Mental Health 12-0.
Derry Cook, Mitch Lawley, Tyrell Nicholson, Luke Whitehouse and Dan Bell also made their way on to the scoresheet for HTFC.
Second-placed Portobello Rangers beat league-leaders Pelsall Cricket & Sports Club 3-1 away, but remain six points behind with five games in hand.
Collins Wamba scored the hosts’ only goal, while Joshua Smallwood and Nathan Myles were among Portobello’s scorers.
There was a 10-goal thriller as AFC Perton drew 5-5 at home with AFC Wolves. Liam Smith netted four alongside Jamie Archer to keep Wolves a point ahead, while Fraser Kerry (three), Joe Bradburn and Reece Ledwidge scored for Perton.
Ashmore Park Rangers RBL remain at the foot of the table after losing 8-1 to Bradmore Social. Daniel Lloyd (two), Daniel Munday (two), Keith Thomas (two), Bradley Lawley and Sam Pursall all netted for third-placed Bradmore.
AFC White Horse climbed to eighth after netting a late winner in their 2-1 triumph against Viking United. Grant Timmins and Andy Smith scored for White Horse, while Viking’s goal came from Alistair Rose.
DY United remain top of Division Four after a 5-0 win against Gunmakers, however second-placed Dudley Rangers United kept the pressure on, beating AFC Huntsmen 8-3.
Spartans Athletic defeated LoneStar Hydrobolt Rangers 3-2 to go third. Codsall Wanderers drew 1-1 with Sporting Codsall to slip to fourth.
Mental Health Sports’ 2-1 win against Mental Health Lions leaves Lions five points adrift at the bottom, while Black Country Phoenix drew 2-2 with Bushbury Hill.
