The former Baggies striker was appointed as the Coasters boss in October, but after winning just five of the 20 games he has overseen - Fylde have decided to make a change.

The 51-year-old leaves his former side third from bottom and a point from safety after a damaging defeat 2-1 to relegation rivals Boston United on Tuesday evening.

A statement from Fylde posted on X said Phillips and the club had 'mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect'.

Phillips was an incredibly popular figure at The Hawthorns after joining from local rivals Aston Villa back in August 2006 - and he spent most of his time at the Albion playing under current boss Tony Mowbray.

He scored 46 times for Baggies in just over 80 appearances in the Black Country - he departed in 2008 when he joined another Midlands side Birmingham City where he played until 2011.

Since retiring from football in 2014, he has gone into management having had spells in charge of Hartlepool United and South Shields - both non-league teams.
