Dan McNamara hails Wolves women after point at Nottingham Forest
Dan McNamara hailed his 'tremendous' Wolves team after securing a point against Nottingham Forest in the women's National League Northern Premier Division, writes Thomas Gibson.
The game, taking place at the City Ground, saw Melissa Johnson give the hosts the lead in the 19th minute.
Only for Wolves to stage a second-half comeback when Charlotte Greengrass scored within one minute of the re-start - and McNamara believes his side could have won it.
“I asked for heart and desire, and I thought we saw that," he reflected. “I said to the girls, forget about the stats, forget about everything else that comes with football and go and play with your heart.
“I thought they were tremendous. The first half was probably Forest’s, but in the second half we came out, and we were lively from the start.
“On another day, I think we nick it and get three points."
There was no other league football in the Northern Premier Division as Albion and Stourbridge were taking part in the semi-finals of the Birmingham Challenge Cup.
Albion got through to the final after beating an Aston Villa team 1-0, but Stourbridge were knocked out after they were thumped 4-1 by Rugby Borough.
In the Super League, Villa's first team lost 3-0 to Leicester City after a brace from Janice Cayman and a goal from Julie Thibaud.
In the Championship, Birmingham City remained top of the table after their 1-0 win at home against Sheffield United thanks to Shannon Cooke's first-half goal.
Lye Town remained four points clear at the top of the West Midlands League Premier Division after a 3-2 win against Leek. Kidderminster are second, and they thumped Alvechurch 5-0.
Lichfield City were the only side to play in the West Midlands League Division One North, they won 2-0 against Rugby Town.
