Wolves piled on the pressure in the second half and were the dominant side in the last 20 minutes as they pushed for a much needed equaliser.

Matheus Cunha's stunning left-footed curling effort gave Vitor Pereira's side a route back into the game, but despite the visitors dominance, Liverpool hung on for all three points.

"Yeah, clearly it was relief at the end, especially after what happened on Wednesday," said Slot.

"Those last eight minutes, and especially the last minute where we conceded a goal, you are so frustrated because you know that moment can also have [an] impact for the next game or for the next games that are coming up."

Referee Simon Hooper came under intense scrutiny following a first-half that many fans, pundits and fellow players were left shocked that Ibrahima Konaté was not sent off for two bookable offences.

Slot took his central defender off at half-time and admitted he feared his team would be reduced to ten men should he have continued.

"Yes, I took him off because of that (fear of red card). Because I saw him getting his first yellow, that was for me a soft yellow.

"If he would have got the second one for a shoulder push, that would again be a soft yellow, so then he would have been sent off by two soft yellows.

"I think the referee felt the same – that's why he didn't. But I've watched football so many times in my life and I know that a player and a referee is then under pressure

" But for Ibou, it's so difficult to play 45 minutes of football against such a strong Wolves team.

"So, I had to take him off because you can't play football knowing in your head you can't make a foul and playing against such good players Wolves have."

Wolves now travel to Bournemouth next weekend as their relegation battle continues.
