Chesterfield searching for improvement on the road ahead of Walsall trip

Chesterfield will be looking to translate their recent home form into points on the road when they travel to Bescot to face League Two leaders Walsall tomorrow.

The Spireites romped to a resounding 5-2 victory over second-place Doncaster Rovers at the SMH Group Stadium last Thursday to move to within six points of the League Two play-off spots.

Paul Cook's charges also recently eased to a 3-0 home win over fellow newly-promoted outfit Bromley and earned a creditable point against promotion contenders Port Vale.

It's on the road where Chesterfield have struggled for form, having gone four away matches without a victory, and collected just one win in their last seven on their travels.

They also suffered a double blow in January with James Berry, scorer of 10 goals this season, heading to League One side Wycombe Wanderers, and Dilan Markanday recalled from his loan following his seven-goal haul.

There are still plenty of goals within their ranks, however. Armando Dobra leads the way on the goal scoring front with 11 and Luton Town loanee Arbim Pepple got off the mark with his first two goals against Doncaster.

Chesterfield have had to combat a chaotic injury crisis on their return to the Football League, with no fewer than 14 players missing between Christmas and New Year.

Those problems have somewhat alleviated with the returns of Tyrone Williams, Ryan Colclough, Jenson Metcalfe and Paddy Madden.

However, former Saddlers striker Will Grigg will not be involved, as the former Northern Ireland international targets a comeback later this month.

Grigg, who scored 28 times in 109 matches for Walsall at the start of his career, had netted 10 goals prior to his calf injury in December.

Left-back Lewis Gordon (calf) also won't be available for the Spireites, while defenders Kyle McFadzean, Chey Dunkley and Harvey Araujo are all long-term absentees.
