The 19-year-old England youth international checked in on loan at The Hawthorns from Tottenham for the remainder of the season and could make his Baggies bow at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday lunchtime.

Lankshear, who also played for Arsenal and Sheffield United in his fledgling career, has earned a reputation as one of the brightest centre-forwards in his age group in the country. This is the teen's first loan, but he has made six senior appearances for Spurs this term.

Mowbray, who added fellow striker and prolific Championship campaigner Adam Armstrong on another loan in a dramatic window finale, admitted Lankshear's quality of finishing has caught his eye in training in the youngster's first week.

Mowbray said: "Lankshear is here as well, I have to say he looks pretty pure in his finishing, his ball contact, the way he puts the ball in the net looks pretty clean to me.

"Sometimes you'd say players are a bit scruffy in the box, off their studs, or heel and goes in. Lankshear looks clear in his finishing, when he wants to whack it with his left foot into the bottom corner it goes in the bottom corner.

"The options at the top end of the pitch look really good. The coaching staff and myself have to find the right balance for what team we play on any given day."

Mowbray's options in his frontline were transformed in the final days of the window, with the statement capture of Armstrong from Southampton - not confirmed until well into the day after Monday's deadline - caught the attention of Championship rivals.

Armstrong and Lankshear could be joined with long-term injury absentee Daryl Dike in a couple of weeks, with top goalscorer Josh Maja not far behind in his injury comeback.

Devante Cole has been on the fringes throughout his debut season at The Hawthorns. Mowbray has opted for 'false nines', more unrecognisable strikers, to lead the line in recent games with Jed Wallace and Grady Diangana given the nod as Karlan Grant was left in reserve.

Lankshear said upon his arrival this week that he sees himself as somebody able to make a difference between the opposition's goalposts.

"Let's hope that competition drives the standards, drives the determination to get in the starting line-up, I'm not sure you can ever have enough good strikers, it keeps them sharp and wanting to score in every game," Mowbray said of his options.

"Young Will's quality looks Premier League quality - how sharp and snappy he is. His finishing quality is very, very clean, almost eyeball contact when it flashes across the box."
