Taylor Allen has experienced a rollercoaster journey to Bescot and it's perhaps his humble roots which have helped propel him to within touching distance of his Walsall century.
The defender will tick on to 100 appearances for the Saddlers if he features against Colchester United in Essex on Saturday but that milestone felt very unlikely until his remarkable breakthrough at the start of 2024.
At the age of 18, Allen was juggling his dream of becoming a professional footballer with shift work at Wetherspoons and his studies at college.
Then, a call came from out of the blue, as Premier League side Leicester City offered him a trial.
