Sporting director Andrew Nestor hailed the 27-year-old marksman's "proven golscoring record" in the Championship as Armstrong reunites with Tony Mowbray at a third different club.
Armstrong has previously thrashed in 84 goals in 200 games under Mowbray alone. He netted 24 goals and provided 13 assists as parent club Southampton won the play-offs last season - with three goals across the semi-final and final alone.
“We are pleased to welcome Adam to The Hawthorns for the rest of the season," said Nestor. "He has extensive experience in the Championship and a proven goalscoring record.
“We had always planned to reinforce our striker options and injuries have accelerated our need in this area.
“Adam is an ideal fit for our squad and very much suits our established style.”
Armstrong completed Albion's business in dramatic style with a 1.30pm confirmation the day after Monday's 11pm deadline. He is the fourth addition through the door following midfielder Isaac Price, striker Will Lankshear and attacking midfielder Tammer Bany.
Baggies supporters were delighted once the agonizing wait for the loan deal to be confirmed ended.
"Haven't been this buzzing for a signing since Dwight Gayle!" Said social media X user @Ryan91823
Lizzie, @ehayward93, added: "I genuinely believe he could be the missing piece we needed."
Albion fan @Sarah_WBAX said: "The only other one I wanted - a proven goalscorer at this level."
Baggies fan Brett added on X: "I don’t think people realise how much of a coup Adam Armstrong is, 24 championship goals last season. Unreal business."
Armstrong joins Josh Maja and Daryl Dike, both returning from injuries, Lankshear and Devante Cole as natural centre-forward options for Mowbray. Others, such as Karlan Grant, Grady Diangana and Jed Wallace, have played in Albion's frontline of late.
First-choice goalkeeper Alex Palmer was sold to Premier League Ipswich in a deal rising to £5million on deadline day. Albion recalled Josh Griffiths, 23, from Bristol Rovers to take his place.
Mowbray namedropped Armstrong in his post-match interview after last Saturday's defeat at Plymouth as a previous example of a loan player he has enjoyed success with.
"A superb signing at this level. And his record attests to Tony Mowbray knowing the style to get the most out of him. No doubt, he will get the appropriate delivery from our attacking midfielders. Welcome @AdamArma9, you have the ideal platform to thrive with us!" @ConradChircop posted on X.
Baggies supporter Ryan Guest posted: "And that rounds off a really solid window for us! No doubt about it, Magic Mowbs has played a massive part in these arrivals. Now it’s time for all the whining and the squabbling on here to stop - it’s time to get behind the gaffer and the team and be one again!"
Tom Wickstead added: "Excellent signing. He has to be in the 11 from the start on Saturday. No messing about."
