Mowbray went into his return to The Hawthorns on the back of a whirlwind seven days, that saw him return to the club before he oversaw a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough on Tuesday.
On his second Hawthorns bow it was a different story entirely, as Albion blew Pompey away with four goals in the space of 20 first half minutes, before adding a fifth in the second half.
It could have been more as Albion ran riot at times to lift them up to fifth and hand Mowbray his first win as Baggies boss.
There were standout displays and key talking points to come from Albion's 5-1 win. Jonny Drury takes a look at a few of them.
Shooting and statistics
Albion were taught a lesson in shooting from outside the box by Boro on Tuesday. For Albion, they got into good areas but as they have done at times this season, they were almost trying to walk the ball in.
Mowbray has been big on this, and showed clear frustration after Boro on his players not having a shot.
