Bradford City vs Walsall preview: Saddlers set sights on making more history at Valley Parade

Walsall will enter a special group of clubs in fourth-tier history if they continue their club record winning streak at Bradford City tomorrow lunch-time.

Luton Town and Stockport County boast the all-time record with 12 (set in 2002 and 2023 respectively) while only six teams in total have ever reached double figures.

Mat Sadler's men will be looking to become the seventh to do so after storming to an historic nine-match winning streak in League Two. Walsall have also gone almost four months without suffering a league defeat - a run stretching 16 games.

That has propelled the Saddlers into a handsome 12-point lead at the league summit, with a game in hand over Crewe Alexandra in second spot and local rivals Port Vale in third.

Walsall return to life on the road in League Two after back-to-back wins at Bescot which saw them put five past Tranmere Rovers and four past Milton Keynes Dons.

Away form ultimately derailed Walsall's play-off push during Sadler's debut campaign but that has not been the case this term. Walsall moved on to 23 points on their travels with their comeback win over promotion rivals Notts County at Meadow Lane on New Year's Day.

That equalled their points tally from the whole of the previous season, with Walsall losing just twice in 11 matches on the road so far.

Solid defensive foundations have been the key to their improvement away from home. No side has conceded fewer than Walsall's impressive tally of six (an average 0.54 per 90) and Stoke City loanee Tommy Simkin has kept four clean sheets in his last five road trips.

Having said that, Walsall know all too well of the challenges that a trip to Valley Parade can pose. Their 3-1 win on their last visit in September 2023 was their first in nine years, with Bradford emerging victorious in four of their last seven meetings on home soil.

Only Walsall (35) have amassed more points at home than the Bantams (27) in League Two this term as Graham Alexander has propelled his side to within just one-point of the top seven.

Sadler is unlikely to change a winning formula especially with Walsall being afforded the luxury of a week gap between games. As it stands, a replacement for Nathan Lowe is still not through the door which means Albert Adomah or Josh Gordon will have another chance to stake a claim.

Adomah scored Walsall's fourth goal in the 4-2 crushing of MK Dons last weekend to move on to 98 career goals and Josh Gordon was handed his second cameo from the bench following his return from injury.

Walsall will be without Donervon Daniels who has been ruled out for "eight to 10 weeks" with a calf injury. The Walsall captain had a scan earlier this week after suffering the injury last week at Peterborough United and is likely to be missing until April.

Jack Earing (ankle), George Hall (hamstring) and Priestley Farquharson (thigh) also remain unavailable for the weekend.
