The 22-year-old Iraq international has featured a handful of times for the Tractor Boys this season, following their promotion to the Premier League.
However he has found himself down the pecking order at Portman Road, and he could be set to join Albion on loan until the end of the season.
Albion had been targeting a forward in the transfer window, even before Josh Maja was ruled out until the spring with a leg injury.
The search to bolster Albion's front line has become even more important since Maja's injury, and the club are working a deal for the former AFC Wimbledon forward.
The forward, who spent time at Tranmere and Swansea City moved on to Wycombe Wanderers before a switch to AFC Wimbledon.
While at the Dons he would net 27 times in 48 appearances, a goal record that earned him a move to promotion chasing Ipswich in January last year.
He netted four times in 14 games to help the Tractor Boys win promotion back to the top flight - but this season his game time has been limited with his nine appearances coming from the bench.
