Albion chalked up a 14th Championship draw in 27 games this season, a record the new head coach will have to improve on in the hunt for a play-off spot.

Here are some of the main talking points in the debrief.

Maja miss

Mowbray watched on alongside owner Shilen Patel and sporting director Andrew Nestor as Albion begin a couple of months within key striker Josh Maja.

The top goalscorer has not only been a reliable source for goals this term, but so much of his side's attacking, certainly in the middle of the pitch, goes through him.

Albion's caretaker bosses continued with the 4-4-2 that Maja and Karlan Grant had featured in, with the latter partnered by Grady Diangana, who bagged the important late equaliser. Diangana showed he is capable in the role and Albion need more from him between now and May.

Grant worked hard as ever up top but his game is more suited to stretching defences with his speed and energy, drifting out wide occasionally to do so. There are few, if any, like Maja in the division and any club would feel his absence.

The test for Mowbray and his staff in the weeks ahead is to find a working Maja alternate. That could, hopefully, arrive in the transfer window, though his exact profile is difficult to replace. Daryl Dike is the elephant in the room, he is nearing regular full training and a potential return, but it is tough to put too much stock in Dike.
