Wolverhampton Racecourse: preview and tips for Saturday’s bumper nine-race card on the all-weather track
It’s a feast of racing action at Wolverhampton on Saturday as the track hosts a bumper nine-race card this weekend.
The meeting gets underway at 4.30pm as ten runners tackle the seven furlong handicap before the action comes to a close four hours later at 8.30pm when seven runners take on a one-and-a-half mile handicap in class six to bring proceedings to an end.

The opening contest on the card sees a field of ten head to the start for the seven furlong handicap in class six division one (4.30). Ash Wednesday from the Heather Main yard comprehensively made amends for a luckless effort the time before when landing the odds over course and distance 11 days ago and looks capable of defying an 8 lb rise. Bossy Parker should finish closer to the selection this time on 8 lb better terms and is feared most
Division two of the same discipline as the opener marks the second race on Saturday at Wolverhampton (5.00). Star Of Atlantis found some improvement when off the mark in a minor event at Southwell 2 weeks ago, beating a next-time-out winner in the process, and can follow up back in a handicap. South Dakota Sioux and Ravenglass are feared most.
Radiant Beauty showed a good attitude to score here recently and, if she can get across to lead from a wide draw, she may well be capable of following up in race three of the evening (5.30) for trainer Richard Newland. Hitched also arrives at the top of his game and looks a big threat for the David Simcock team.
Eleven runners will tackle the longest race of the night in terms of trip with the two-mile class six handicap due for the off at 6.00. The John Butler-trained Payment Plan is at the top of his game and would have gone closer to landing the hat-trick with a clear run over C&D last time. This doesn't look strong and he's fancied to resume winning ways at the possible expense of Typewritten, who shaped well from an unpromising position at Newcastle 8 days ago
The fifth race of the evening sees a small field of four taking on the six furlong novice stakes in class six (6.30). The market will surely tell a tale given Toralou has been off the track 18 months, Al Waqidi returning for a new yard following three and a half years away and Twilight Diamond a newcomer and stablemate of the first-named horse. At this stage, Toralou gets the vote for trainer David O’Meara but this one is anyone’s guess.
Race six of the evening (7.00) is a much bigger field of 11 heading to the stalls for the five furlong sprint handicap, again in class six. Buraback cashed in on a falling mark over course and distance on Monday and a 5lb penalty shouldn't prevent a bold follow-up bid. Hastily and Second Collection both reacted well to the application of headgear last time and head the opposition.
Nine runners will line up for race seven on the Wolverhampton card (7.30) where Cut To The Chase, trained by Tony Carroll, cranked it up another notch when an easy winner at Chelmsford last week and, kept to this sort of grade, he can outclass the field here while the penultimate race on the card (8.00) can go the way of Red Walls, who was value for a bit extra over the result having raced up with a strong pace throughout when recording a sixth course success last week.
Finally, the bumper meeting comes to an end with the one-and-a-half mile handicap in class six (8.30), with seven runners taking it on. Jujubella is improving in leaps and bounds for trainer Lucinda Russell and will take some stopping in her hat-trick bid given she escapes a penalty for her wide-margin success at Newcastle earlier in the week. Harlington and Disclosure can battle it out for minor honours.
