Wolverhampton continues to rescue racing fans amid cold snap
Wolverhampton Racecourse hosts its latest card on Saturday afternoon this week as the track continues to come to the rescue of racing fans looking for some sport to watch.
The all-weather surface at the track has come into its own this week as racing across Britain has been hit by a cold snap and many meetings have fallen foul - but not in the Black Country as the course is set to host a seven-race card this weekend kicking off at 5.30pm and rounding off three hours later at 8.30pm.

The opening contest of the evening (5.30) sees nine runners tackle the class six handicap over the seven furlong trip. City Cyclone had plenty up his sleeve when going in over course and distance a week ago and a 7lb rise doesn't look sufficient to prevent him from following up for trainer Tony Carroll. Fellow C&D winner Heavenly Fire is feared most under a penalty, with Voltaic and Radiant Angel also worthy of consideration.
Eleven runners will head to the stalls for race two of the evening in the one mile class five maiden stakes for horses aged three and older (6.00). Only One Blue shaped well when runner-up at Southwell on her recent debut and is fancied to build on it and go one better, unless Ralph Beckett's newcomer Run With It proves well above average. C&D debut third Wanderlust and the returning Destructive can also have a say.
Impressive last time out winner Manara remains unexposed and she can land the hat-trick in race three on Wolverhampton’s card (6.30) as six runners take on the class five handicap over the one mile and one furlong distance. Kevin Philippart De Foy’s charge can get the win at the expense of the consistent Patrol who typically finds plenty for pressure and should go well again.
Master Of My Fate looks the one to beat in race four (7.00) off the back of two wins in his last three starts for the John and Sean Quinn team, while Sarafina Mshairi looks to be the play in the fifth race on the card (7.30), a decent enough fourth and third on her last spins at this track and is eased in class for this six furlong handicap contest.
Maharajas Express is well handicapped in the penultimate race on Saturday’s card (8.00) and took a firm step in the right direction debuting for a new yard with Ian Williams when second here five days ago so, if the race doesn't come too soon, he's capable of going one better. Rogue Thunder, a former stablemate of the selection, is a big danger and old rival Red Walls can't be dismissed in this class six handicap over six furlongs.
Finally, the card comes to a close with a ten-runner handicap in class five for horses aged four and upwards to be held over the extended mile trip (8.30). Jersey Rocs, trained by Charlie Hills, has hit an upward curve all of a sudden and had more in hand than the bare result indicates when scoring over course and distance last time, so he's fancied to complete the hat-trick at the possible expense of Kit Gabriel, another C&D winner having scored at this track 12 days ago.
