Walsall have had the luxury of a 10-day break after their trip to Cheltenham Town was postponed due to a frozen pitch last Saturday.

That has provided Walsall with a prime chance to hit the reset button, after a hectic festive schedule which heralded six consecutive wins.

The Saddlers came from behind to beat Notts County 2-1 and equal a club record seven league wins on the spin on New Year's Day.

Here is how the Walsall boss could set-up on the weekend.

(3-1-4-2)

Tommy Simkin

Simkin conceded his first goal in 476 minutes at Notts County after previously collecting five clean sheets in a row in League Two.

The Stoke City loanee still leads the way in the race for the golden glove with 11 shutouts in 22 matches.

David Okagbue

Mat Sadler's decision to rest Taylor Allen on New Year's Day suggests there is scope for rotation across the back-line.

Okagbue has also played a lot of football since his half-time introduction in the reverse fixture at Tranmere in August but the extended break since Notts County means he is likely to retain his place.

Harry Williams

Walsall always look a much more secure defensive unit when Williams is at the heart of the back-line.

The former Alvechurch centre-back has become almost indispensable with his return from concussion coinciding with their recent run of seven straight wins.

Taylor Allen

Allen was left on the bench for the trip to Meadow Lane as Evan Weir shone in his absence.

Weir collected a pair of assists and produced a miraculous goal-line clearance in the first half to leave Sadler with a decision to make.

It was clear from Sadler's comments at full-time that Allen's omission was purely for rotational purposes and it would be surprising not to see him recalled however harsh on Weir that may seem.

Ryan Stirk

With Allen not starting at Notts County, Stirk remains one of only two Walsall players to start every game in League Two this term.

That may create an opportunity for Brandon Comley over the coming weeks if Sadler opts to give Stirk a rest although that seems unlikely this weekend with Comley only just returning from injury.

Connor Barrett

The right wing-back and Stirk are the only two players to start every league game for Walsall this term. Barrett has been one of the first names on the team sheet since arriving from AFC Fylde last summer and that is not expected to change on the weekend.

Jamie Jellis

Jellis has been a regular throughout the campaign and is likely to keep his place despite Oisin McEntee producing a strong performance from the bench at Notts County.

Charlie Lakin

Lakin was hooked at half-time last time out but will likely benefit from his 45-minute rest.

The midfielder has been a constant source of energy both in and out of possession and has been in superb form in recent weeks.

Liam Gordon

No player has played more minutes for Sadler than Liam Gordon. The Guyana international has missed just one game in League Two this season which was enforced due to a leg injury as Walsall lost 1-0 at MK Dons in September.

Nathan Lowe

The teenager, who was named League Two player of the month for December, has been instrumental to recent wins - scoring five goals in his last four outings including the winner at Notts County.

Lowe sits at the top of the charts in the race for the League Two golden boot on 14 goals and has netted a further 17 across all competitions.

Jamille Matt

Albert Adomah led the line in the first 45 at Meadow Lane but the introduction of Matt provided Walsall with a focal point up top.

He then capped his emergence from the bench with the equaliser on 65 minutes to extend his season tally to seven.
