Non-league preview: Sneekes tells Rushall to stay grounded ahead of Scunthorpe clash

Boss Richard Sneekes has told his Rushall Olympic to keep their feet “firmly on the ground” after two impressive victories that have ignited their survival push.

The West Brom hero led the Pics to a memorable, and narrow victory over National League North high-flyers Kidderminster Harriers before a 3-1 win at fellow strugglers Farsley Celtic.

But, they now face a tough test upon their return to Dales Lane, hosting Scunthorpe United whose 72-year spell in the Football League ended just more than two years ago.

Looking to make it three wins in a row as they sit six points from safety, Sneekes, who was officially appointed as manager on December 18, is delighted with his side’s upturn in results.

“I am really pleased with the way things have gone and long may it continue,” said the new Pics boss.

“But, you have always got to think that we haven’t cracked the code, the confidence is high, but we don’t want to be overconfident and think that we just have to turn up and we will beat teams. We have got to keep our feet firmly on the ground.

“If we can play the way that we have been then we will have a great chance of staying up.”

However, despite their winning form, the Dutchman is under no illusions that this weekend presents a difficult task for his side.

Third-placed Scunthorpe are unbeaten in their last seven league games and are eying an opportunity to go top of the division - sitting one point adrift of leaders Curzon Ashton.

Sneekes added: “We played them up there and you can see what a big club it is. They have had a bit of a fall from grace, being in the Championship not so long ago.

“Everybody sees Scunthorpe as a massive scalp in our division, hopefully they will bring some fans and hopefully our fans have seen the turnaround and will show some faith again

“It is going to be a difficult game, their budget is huge, and they have some really good players with football league experience. We have got to be at our very best to give them a game.”

The Dutchman is also hoping to create some happier memories for himself against the side.

Recalling upon his own experiences against Scunthorpe from his playing days, Sneekes added: “The only game I can remember is when I played there for Hull City and it was a local derby.

I think we lost 2-1 so the memories aren’t very happy ones, and we (Rushall) lost there earlier this season.

“Hopefully now coming to our patch, playing on the 3g will aid us, and we can make it difficult. Everything is possible but we have to be at our best.”

Meanwhile, league rivals and title contenders Kidderminster Harriers travel to Marine. Phil Brown's side are looking to bounce back from the New Year's Day defeat to Rushall.

And, in the Southern Central Premier, Stourbridge, who have slipped down to 10th in the standings and six points adrift of the play-off places, welcome Banbury United. The Glassboys are winless in their last five league games, while rivals Halesowen Town have lost their last three matches and host Royston Town.
