The 22-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Saddlers - scoring twice in 24 appearances across all competitions so far.

As first reported by journalist Peter O'Rourke, Williams is a target for a number of League One and Scottish Premier League clubs in the January transfer window.

Williams, who arrived from non-league Alvechurch in 2023, has entered the final six months of his current deal after Walsall exercised his option year last summer.

The former Albion academy centre-back was keen to sign for a further year prior to the current campaign, but Walsall opted to only take his option, which allowed his deal to run into its final year.

Contracts talks were held over a new deal before Christmas and Williams and his representatives are hoping to reach an agreement over the coming months.

Williams is believed to be happy at Walsall after playing a key role in propelling them to the League Two summit and is keen to continue playing for them in the division above next season if they achieve promotion.

Walsall have option years for Evan Weir, Rico Browne and Jamie Jellis but still have a further 13 players out of contract in the summer including Williams.

Sam Hornby, Oisin McEntee, Donervon Daniels, Priestley Farquharson, Liam Gordon, Ryan Stirk, Jack Earing, Ronan Maher, Albert Adomah, Danny Johnson, Jamille Matt and Douglas James-Taylor are also yet to put pen to paper on deals beyond this summer.

David Okagbue, Taylor Allen, Brandon Comley, Charlie Lakin and Josh Gordon are contracted until 2026 while Connor Barrett's three-year deal expires in 2027.
