Albion substitute Tom Fellows struck in the 66th minute shortly after being introduced and it looked like enough for first back-to-back wins since September - but for a bitter late blow.

Ex-Liverpool and Stoke midfielder Allen, the 88th-minute sub who stands at just 5ft 7ins, guided in a near-post header to earn the hosts an unlikely point.

Fellows' breakthrough came after a first-half Baggies barrage of chances but a lack of composure or killer touch eventually proved costly.

The Swansea.com Stadium clash is expected to be the final Championship fixture under the caretaker stewardship of Chris Brunt, Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill, with FA Cup action next weekend.

But a 13th draw from 26 is form Albion's new boss will have to iron out pretty sharpish if Albion are to consolidate a play-off spot. The point make it a record of five points from a possible 12 under caretaker charge.

The visitors were guilty of passing up countless openings and promising moments in a dominant first period against the side managed by Luke Williams, who has been linked to the vacant Hawthorns post but is not in the frame.

Albion's Ousmane Diakite picked up a needless yellow card inside 45 seconds for trying to stop a quick free-kick but the visitors otherwise showed a threat.

Jed Wallace, in a first start for more than two months, was involved with a wicked delivery and the set-piece resulted in top scorer Josh Maja pulling a bouncing ball wide across goal.

Williams' hosts were a threat from set-pieces as a Josh Key header led to Callum Styles clearing just in front of goalkeeper Alex Palmer. Moments later Liam Cullen nodded a Jisung Eom cross over.

An open clash broke out in difficult conditions on a rugby-affected worn surface in south Wales. Albion pinched the ball a handful of times but could not quite take advantage. Diakite won the ball on a number of occasions as Maja and Karlan Grant combined to feed the former, but Harry Darling denied Maja.

The Baggies began to dominate and wasted a couple of openings in the box for Wallace and Grant on half hour.

Swansea wanted a penalty for a Darnell Furlong handball but Jayson Molumby - fresh off his new three-year contract - broke all the way but saw his strike fly wildly across goal.

It was one-way traffic and a torrent of Baggies chance as Wallace fed Grant and his bottom corner-bound strike was superbly saved by Lawrence Vigouroux.

Grant then headed at the Chilean goalkeeper before Mikey Johnston curled inches wide of the top right corner. The Irish winger then drew another parried Vigouroux save.

Swans striker Zan Vipotnik drove inches wide of the goal on the stroke of half-time with everyone wondering how the scoreline was level.

The second period lacked the same end-to-end nature but there remained moments of promise in the final third for both sides. Palmer, on his 100th Albion game, was at his best to dart out and beat Florian Bianchini to the ball.

A couple of Albion strikes from range flew over but the caretaker side waited no time to introduce Fellows and Alex Mowatt. The former was immediately a threat and played in on goal but opted to leave the chance thinking he was offside.

Moments later there was no such hesitancy.

The breakthrough owed much to Molumby. He won the ball on halfway and charged at Swansea. Having reached the box he kept his cool to feed Fellows, whose first-time finish with his left foot beat Vigouroux at his near post. Fellows showed so much composure in his cool low strike.

The Baggies managed the next 10 or 15 minutes expertly. Williams' hosts saw more of the ball but Albion were resolute, with every clearance cheered by Brunt in the dugout.

Home left-back Josh Tymon drew a rare Palmer save with a half-volley before Fellows could have sealed the win with another left-footed strike, narrowly over, with 10 minutes left.

The visitors looked good for rare back-to-back wins after numerous clearances but Albion were punished for just a single goal lead.

Ronald's delivery was well met by sub Allen and the Wales international guided a fine header across Palmer into the corner to deny the Baggies.
