Weir replaced Allen in the starting XI to make only his second league start for Walsall in their 2-1 comeback win at Notts County on New Year's Day.
The Irishman collected a pair of assists for Jamille Matt and Nathan Lowe to help Walsall register seven consecutive league wins in a single season for the first time since 1959.
He also produced a miraculous goal line clearance to cap his first league start in just under four months in style.
Mat Sadler opted to rest Allen after a run of 38 successive league starts since February last year, but Weir has been keen to soak up as much as he can from the Cannock-born defender since arriving from Drogheda United last summer.
He said: "You've got to back yourself as a footballer but I've watched Taylor week in, week out, when he is playing. I take little bits and ask questions because he's a great player.
"You can see that with the season that he has had so far. He has been tremendous and he is an even better guy off the pitch.
"I've had a chat with Taylor about this and he said he was in the same position as me last year. Now look at him, he is flying, so I am just here to work hard and any chance I do get, I'll take it."
