Weir was introduced in the closing stages of Walsall's 2-0 win over Harrogate Town at Wetherby Road on Saturday for his first league appearance in over three months.

The Irishman has made nine appearances across all competitions since joining up with the squad in the summer following his switch from Drogheda United last winter.

However, the defender has been restricted to just 46 minutes in the league so far this term and Sadler has backed him to add to the strong competition for places across the squad.

He said: "Evan is great. I love Evo, he's a fantastic kid and you're right in terms of his ability.

"He has done great for us and I've got some great options down that left hand side with him, Taylor and other guys that can go in there.

"It's competition for places again. Just keeping that strength and keeping that depth because we're going to need every single of those guys.

"Our squad is littered with people that maybe weren't playing but now are playing and now aren't playing who will play. We're going to need that."

Elsewhere, Dylan Thomas has recently returned from a shoulder injury and Sadler has confirmed that the club intend to send him out on loan again in the near future.

Sadler added: "Same plan with Dylan. He played last Tuesday so hopefully we'll get him out soon."
