Following his release from West Brom and later Burnley, Williams revived his career with Alvechurch in the seventh-tier to propel himself into the Football League with Walsall.

Williams is now enjoying a breakthrough season at Bescot after his debut campaign was curtailed by injury and the 22-year-old feels the difficult moments have transformed him into the man he is today.

"It's always tough but you build character in those moments. When you here the news, of course it's tough but it's what's next then," he reflected on his release from Albion.

"Fortunately enough I had trials and Burnley liked me. I went there for a year and it was a big learning curve because it was my first time away from home.

"I was 19 and just learned about life really. Learning to live on your own and there the sort of things I've taken with me.

"They've made me the person I am now. To know I've got work hard, nothing is given to you on a plate and you've got to work hard for what you want to achieve."
