The centre-back was ruled out for the second half of his debut campaign with a hip flexor injury and only made his return to action in pre-season.
Williams has become a key figure in Walsall's early promotion push - amassing 20 appearances across all competitions this term.
The 22-year-old admitted he perhaps never expected to have started the season as well as he has but reiterated that he won't be resting on his laurels.
He said: "I pride myself on working hard, doing everything possible that I could to get back physically and mentally stronger.
"I never maybe thought I'd be in this position but I think I can pat myself on the back and say that my hard work has paid off.
"I've put myself in a position where the gaffer can trust me but it's early on and I've just got to keep doing the basics right and keeping the performances consistent."
"We talked about getting stronger in terms of working on my body but I had a chance to go over to St George's Park for the PFA scheme.
"I was able to take tips from other physios and learning exercises to manage certain scenarios. The physio department were brilliant here and having that experience at St George's was great.
"It all helped to get myself back in the best place possible."
