Mat Sadler issues injury update on Walsall pair
Mat Sadler has revealed Walsall midfielder Brandon Comley could return from a fractured cheekbone in "two to three weeks".
The Walsall boss ruled the Montserrat international out for four to six weeks, after he underwent an operation on the injury, which he suffered in the 4-0 defeat against Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup last month.
But Sadler has since issued another update confirming that Comley could be back sooner although he will need to wear a protective mask.
Meanwhile, Jamie Jellis is "close" to a return after missing the past three games with a calf injury and will be fighting to be fit for the visit of Barrow on Saturday.
Sadler said: "Fingers crossed we're more talking two to three weeks with Brandon. Not because the injury is any different but hopefully he can wear a protective mask for it which we'll have to sort out.
"That takes time to get sorted, it's not just an overnight thing. We'll see with Jamie, I'd like to think he'll be available for selection on Saturday but I don't want to push him on that.
"Jamie is the type of kid who would've carried on playing with the injury so sometimes I have to not listen when he tells me he's alright but he's very close."
Walsall made eight changes as they progressed to the EFL Trophy round of 16 against Reading on penalties and Sadler was pleased to keep his squad fresh ahead of the festive fixtures.
He continued: "We need to make sure that we do right by everybody all the time. There's so many games and we've just added another one (in the EFL Trophy).
"By the end of this year, I'm sure we would've played 60 odd games and everyone is going to have played a lot of football."
