Danny Johnson forced penalties with a dramatic last-gasp equaliser to cancel out Tyler Sackey's 72nd minute opener for Reading.

Johnson had a number of chances, including a gilt-edged opportunity after 20 minutes, while Albert Adomah also fluffed his lines with the goal at his mercy early on.

But the leveller eventually arrived, which Sadler felt was thoroughly deserved, after a dominant performance from start to finish.

He said: "We played so well. I wrote down on my pad at half-time and said to the lads that they'd done absolutely everything that we spoke about before the game.

"But we just hadn't put the ball in the back of net. I didn't feel like I had to say more than that, we created chance after chance.

"We played against a proper team there and we've dominated the game from start to finish. I know that them going down to nine men makes it look like they're only playing nine men but they were sent off because we were through on goal twice.

"In a way I'm delighted with the way we won it because it shows what we're all about and it shows the character that we've got in here.

"They never give up and they keep going."

Johnson was among the scorers in the shoot-out as Adomah, Donervon Daniels and Reyes Cleary also converted.

And Sam Hornby emerged as the hero after denying Charlie Wellens and Jayden Wareham from the spot.

"There was no point in my mind that I was ever going to take Danny off in that game because I keep saying it about strikers, if we're going to get chances then that's perfect because we'll take them eventually," Sadler continued.

"Eventually being the right word tonight but then for Sam (Hornby) as well. I'm buzzing he gets his moment as well because he's a cracking lad and he looked a good presence in the goal there."
