Wolverhampton Racecourse: preview and tips for Monday’s nine-race card
The all-weather action continues at Wolverhampton Racecourse on Monday evening with an action-packed nine race card.
The opening contest of the meeting gets underway at 4.15pm with a ten-runner handicap contest in class six before the action comes to a close four hours later at 8.15pm with a fillies’ handicap in class five.
The first race of the day (4.15) sees a field of ten head to the stalls for the five-furlong sprint handicap in class six. My Genghis, a previous course and distance winner for trainer Tony Carroll, looks the one to beat in the opener, dropping back in trip and is taken to resume winning ways after a fourth last time out. The main danger could come from Lewis Barnes, who has been in good form in recent months.
King Of Stars could be worth chancing on his third run after a lengthy losing streak that stretches back to 18 runs since 2021 but has dropped a long way down in the weights and is back in this sphere for the first time since April 2021 so may be worth a chance in race two (4.45). Acklam Express is an unreliable sort but if he is putting his best foot forward then will be a threat for trainer Clive Cox.
Onslow Gardens is the selection in race three of Wolverhampton’s card (5.15) for trainer Richard Hannon, back in novice company after a creditable third at this track when last seen 73 days ago, while race four of the evening (5.45) can go the way of Lattaash, who got back on track in first-time cheekpieces when landing a third at Newcastle just over a fortnight ago.
There are a few in with chances in the 12-runner handicap in class six at 6.15, but it could be worth siding with Coolagh Magic, an emphatic winner last time out at Lingfield for trainer Anthony Carson. Kracking has been a progressive type in recent weeks and was an excellent second in a Kempton handicap last time out so he is taken to go one better this time around at Wolverhampton in race six (6.45) over one mile and one furlong in class five.
Twelve runners will take on the class six handicap at 7.15 and despite being without a win in 19 starts, Fitz Perfectly is the selection to finally get off the winning mark for trainer David Brooke off the back of a very good second at this course 28 days ago streaking clear of the rest and finding only one too good on the day.
The penultimate race of the evening (7.45) looks to be all about Khangai for trainer James Owen, a winner on his second start for his new yard but left himself too much to do when third over course and distance three weeks finishing third but is still a major player here, while the finale of the Wolverhampton card (8.15) sees Alfheim get the nod for the George Boughey team, second to the re-opposing Caramay when last seen a week ago at this track but is now 5lb better off in the weights so is taken to reverse the placings.
