Mat Sadler hopes Tamworth relationship strengthens after Ronan Maher's FA Cup heroics

Mat Sadler hopes Ronan Maher's strong start on loan at Tamworth will help strengthen Walsall's growing relationship with the National League outfit.

Maher scored his first goal for the club as Tamworth drew against League One side Burton Albion before beating them on penalties in the FA Cup last weekend.

That propelled Tamworth into the third round for the first time in 12 years and set-up a lucrative home tie against Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

Maher's one-month loan is set to expire by the time Ange Postecoglou and co visit the Lamb and Sadler was unable to confirm whether his stay will be extended into the New Year.

However, Sadler is hopeful Rico Browne's successful loan earlier in the campaign and Jamie Jellis' rise will only help create a stronger connection between both clubs.

Sadler said: "The beauty of it is that we've got that flexibility with it. I wanted Ronan to experience the level above where he was last season and one level above us with a team that are doing well.

"They're fighting on quite a few fronts. The manager has really showed belief in his players and Rico came back saying exactly the same.

"Hopefully we continue to have a really good link with Tamworth. It started with Jamie (Jellis) and we've carried it on with the two loan guys.

"That helps strengthen the relationship. But for Ronan, who knows, we'll see. It's great because we wanted to get games for him to be ready for us."
