Sawyers, 33, has signed a one-month contract with the Dons that runs until January 4.

The experienced midfielder had been a free agent since he was released by Championship outfit Cardiff City in the summer.

Sawyers grew up in the Baggies' academy, where he spent six years from the age of 13 before being released.

But he would go on to star in the Football League down the road with Walsall initially - where he played in excess of 150 games in three seasons - and Brentford, where he was an integral squad member.

He returned to The Hawthorns in 2019 where Albion, under Slaven Bilic, paid £2.9million for the Birmingham-born midfielder's services.

And Sawyers played a key role with 43 appearances as Bilic's men won promotion to the Premier League in the 2019/20 campaign. He played 19 games in the top flight the following campaign, which resulted in relegation. Sawyers played 64 games in all for Albion and netted once.

Sawyers was deemed surplus to requirements soon after by new boss Valerien Ismael and allowed out to Championship rivals Stoke on loan and his contract was not extended in 2022, when the Saint Kitts and Nevis international moved on to south Wales.

Sawyers' new club AFC Wimbledon, managed by ex-Charlton chief Johnnie Jackson, are eighth in the fourth tier.
