Walsall 3 Notts County 2: Player ratings
Express & Star sports reporter Lewis Cox rates the players out of 10 on a memorable night for the Saddlers in victory over promotion rivals Notts County
Tommy Simkin
The goalkeeper had next-to-nothing to do in the first period and was beaten by penalty and decent late strike but earned his corn with spectacular last-gasp flying save to deny Notts dramatic equaliser.
Last-gasp 7
Harry Williams
A really dominant performance by the big centre-half. Seemed to block and head everything, as if he was a magnet to the ball. Only blot on copybook was push for penalty.
Big 8
David Okagbue
Defended well throughout, bar one or two moments. Missed one header early in second half that might've been costly. That aside used ball well and read game. Headed good chance wide.
Solid 7
Taylor Allen
Really was an electric performance on the left side of defence. Fourth goal of the season straight from corner is a great return so far. Delivery was on the money. Solid at back.
Star 8
Connor Barrett
As usual provided the Saddlers with electric energy down the right flank and such an appetite to maraud forward. Delivery was good when he got the chance. Defended well.
Energy 7
Ryan Stirk
Really shone at the base of his side's midfield. Was at the heart of everything Walsall did with and without the ball. His work-rate was rightly praised by boss Sadler afterwards.
Dictated 8
Charlie Lakin
Deserves credit for powering up and down in support of his attackers against a good side. Put in a really energetic display and made sure Walsall did not lack bodies in attack.
Tireless 7
George Hall
A standout display from the Blues loanee. Had to bide his time for just a third league start and he delivered here. Full of power and pace when running with the ball. Quality goal.
Best yet 8
Liam Gordon
The athletic wing-back is such a fine outlet on the left. Gave so much width and attacking intent. County didn't know how to deal with him. Gave quality with his left foot too.
Weapon 7
Jamille Matt
Not many goalmouth moments for the experienced skipper but he used all of his wisdom with some lovely moments of combination and some excellent touches and control.
Intelligent 7
Nathan Lowe
Yet another superb display from the teen loanee who continues to shine. Wonderful assist for Hall and poacher's key late third. His hold-up play was exquisite. What a prospect.
Impressive 8
Substitutes:
Albert Adomah (for Matt, 75) The wily old attacker had a wonderful impact. Was a physical menace and played key role with assist for Lowe. 7
Jack Earing (for Hall, 84) Likewise, another great influence from bench. Not much time but played neat ball for Adomah for Lowe goal. 7
Subs not used: Hornby, McEntee, Daniels, Weir, Johnson.
