Walsall vs Bromley - match preview: Saddlers riding high in early promotion battle

Momentum is key in football and Walsall are continuing to ride the crest of a wave as their early promotion push goes from strength to strength.

They will be looking to make newly-promoted Bromley their next victims after moving back into second-place with a 1-0 victory at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Bescot has been a real fortress once again this term with Walsall averaging more points per game (2.29) than any other team in the division. In fact, the Saddlers have collected 14 wins from their last 21 home league games (drawing three, losing four) since the start of December last year.

They have a prime opportunity to strengthen their grip on the promotion race ahead of back-to-back top end tussles against Notts County and Port Vale respectively next week.

Mat Sadler repeated his mantra of taking it each game at a time but called on Walsall fans to "sing loud and proud" in order to make Bescot a caldron of noise under the lights.

He said: "I know this is a rearranged Saturday game and I know on Tuesday night that it's difficult.

"I get it because everyone has got work and all sorts of commitments but as many that can possibly come makes all the difference for us.

"We're desperate to play in front of you and desperate to do well for the football club. Sing loud, sing proud and make it a real fortress for us."

Sadler has named the same XI for the past two league matches and will likely resist the temptation of making changes to a winning formula.

Nathan Lowe continued his hot streak in front of goal with his seventh goal in as many games at Wimbledon.

The teenager extended his season tally to 11 goals across all competitions and moved one shy of leading scorer Andy Cook (nine) in the race for the League Two golden boot.

Lowe has emerged as another gem on the loan market but it's also worth acknowledging the education that he has received playing alongside veteran Jamille Matt.

The pair have struck up a strong partnership since his arrival from Stoke City while Matt has seemingly shaken off his niggling injuries from last season to feature more prominently.

Club captain Donervon Daniels retained his place in the back-three despite Harry Williams being declared fit after passing concussion protocol last week.

Williams was among the travelling party at Wimbledon but was not involved in the squad. That in itself further underlines the luxury of options at Sadler's disposal - as the Walsall boss acknowledged.

"Harry was here and made sure he did his work. The same as Reyes, we've got Rico and Evan as well. Some fantastic options and Oisin McEntee sat on the bench," he continued.

"He's a fantastic player and I love working with Oisin. We're lucky with those guys, I think what links all of them is that willingness to work hard and want to defend."

Priestley Farquharson (thigh) and Josh Gordon (hamstring) remain long-term absentees.
