Rushall Olympic looking to overcome winless streak
Adam Stevens' Rushall Olympic are up for the fight and battle for survival as they aim to end their lengthy National League North winless streak.
Rushall have not won in their last seven league matches and sit at the foot of the standings with 11 points from their opening 16 games.
However, the basement boys did enjoy success in the FA Trophy against Royston Town last Saturday, and boss Stevens hopes his side can convert their winning cup form into the league against Warrington Town at Dales Lane tomorrow.
Asked if victory would come as a relief, Stevens said: “Yes, of course it would. The longer it goes on the harder it becomes as such.
“I’ve been in the game a while and I think Rome wasn’t built in a day. We started off with zero players.
“It’s important to make us strong physically and mentally because that’s what we need, men in the trenches.
“We’re not deluded, we can’t compete with most teams in this league. The object is to hopefully stay in the league and the lads are all chomping at the bit for that.
“Our performances certainly deserve more than the point tally. Certainly against Alfreton and Radcliffe.
“We’re looking forward to the challenge.”
Stevens has battled injuries in his squad and has had to strengthen with additions. This week, Rushall welcomed Dylan Barkers from Stafford Rangers, adding to the signing of former Walsall star Milan Lalkovic earlier this month.
Sitting seven points adrift from safety, and from their opponents Warrington who are also living dangerously towards the bottom of the table, Stevens remains upbeat and hoping for his side to find the net on more occasions as they are currently the third lowest scorers in the division.
“We’ve had a lot of injuries to contend with," Stevens continued. “I’ve never gone on about that, but even last weekend it was like that.
“We should have a few back this weekend.
“It’s all hands to the pump. At times we have been young and naive, and punished. But we have strengthened in the middle of the park with men and experienced bodies.
“They are (Warrington) not in a great run of form.
“We’ve got 30 games and got to keep improving in certain areas.
“We’ve got to score more goals. It’s important that we get goals from every area of the pitch.
“The lads are certainly up for the fight.”
Meanwhile, Kidderminster Harriers are enjoying life at the opposite end of the table and resume their pursuit of leaders Chorley visiting Scarborough Athletic tomorrow.
Phil Brown’s side sit just a point behind the table-toppers, and are unbeaten in their last eight National League North games with five wins and three draws.
Kidderminster came from behind to overcome local rivals Halesowen Town in the FA Trophy last weekend as former manager Russell Penn returned to Aggborough but left empty-handed.
Penn’s Yeltz return to Southern Central Premier action hosting Biggleswade Town, while fourth-placed Stourbridge - two points and two places behind Halesowen - go to Spalding United.
