West Brom v Norwich City preview: Baggies have glaring home issue to solve

That is not to say another goalless draw tomorrow, with an out-of-sorts Norwich the visitors, would be a disaster. Carlos Corberan stressed last time out the value on each and every point in the Championship.

But home supporters simply have to be entertained. They need something to rally behind and something to be excited by.

The scarcely-believable return of two goals from seven home fixtures is a record that Albion cannot afford to put up with for much longer. Season tickets flew off the shelves at a record rate in the summer and around 19,000 guaranteed home punters want to be repaid with goals to celebrate - or at least a regular rate of chances created.

Tranmere Rovers, of League Two, have now overtaken the Baggies and left them rock bottom of the pile for home goals in the top four leagues this season.

The expected goals (xG) measurement, which rates the quality of chances at goal, has valued Albion at less than one in all but one of their four home stalemates. The Leeds fixture rated 0.71 xG from eight shots, Millwall was 0.73 xG from 13 shots, Cardiff - a clear outlier - was 1.66 xG from 19 shots and Burnley most recently was 0.90 xG from 11 shots.

Naturally each game has its own story. Albion created next-to-nothing against Millwall, a side happy to defend deep. Against Cardiff, a more expansive side, the Baggies should have been 5-0 up in half hour.

Goalless draws must not be used as too heavy a stick to beat Corberan's side with, though.

For all the flack goal-shy Albion have taken when it comes to their measly return, they also boast record numbers at the other end of the pitch in front of their home faithful.

Just a single goal conceded - against Middlesbrough - in those seven games is the sternest rearguard record of any of the top 92 clubs in England.

Three goals, in total, seen by home support says nothing for value for money at The Hawthorns this season. But credit to Corberan's defensively-resolute Baggies as little has been able to get through this season, even with availability issues now plaguing that department.

Norwich will test that run tomorrow. The Canaries are struggling and winless in six, also without some key individuals, but they do boast the division's hottest hitman - with two goals more than Josh Maja - in 11-goal Spanish winger Borja Sainz.

Just as curious as Albion's limited home attacking nous is a polar opposite away from home. Nobody in the Championship has scored more than Albion's 14 away from The Hawthorns this term.

The Baggies have the most points on the road but are down in 20th for their home form. More often than not under Corberan, and for Albion at this level, you would expect the home form to be dominant in the hunt for promotion. The away record was a struggle even last season.

The 2-1 win at Hull to sign off for the break last time out was vital in ending an eight-game winless run - but there is still work to do to address home goalscoring issues.
