The 25-year old West Brom goal stat broken by the current crop

After winning five of their first six games in the league - Albion then went on an eight game winless run that saw them draw six games on the bounce.

They addressed the slide on the road at Hull City in their last game before the latest international break - but their statistics when it comes to goals scored are still startling.

Albion only scored once in October, and of their 15 games this season they have only scored two or more goals on five occasions.

Only five teams have scored less than Albion across the entire division - but their water tight backline has eased the impact of the lack of goalmouth action.

Their missed chances and failure to turn 0-0 draws into wins on a number of occasions has led to them netting just 16 times in their 15 first Championship games.

And that is unfamiliar territory for an Albion side in the second tier.

Including this current season, Albion have had 13 campaigns in the Championship or the old First Division in the last 25 years.

And you have to go back a quarter of century for the last time Albion score a fewer amount of goals than the current side has so far this year.

Here is a look back at all of those campaigns, with some involving a lot more goals than others.

2024/25 - 16 goals scored

The goal issue for Albion has been well documented, but it has been largely down to poor finishing than being unable to create chances.

Albion have on average less than a goal a game. Will that now change after the recent win over Hull?

2023/24 - 25 goals scored

After his first full summer, Carlos Corberan set about trying to make Albion more offensive, and it worked. In the opening 15 games, they were scoring fours and threes, including a memorable 4-0 win at Preston.

They had hit their straps, with goals coming from all angles without a clear goalscorer. What Corberan had also been able to do is keep it tight at the back.

2022/23 - 19 goals scored

Surprisingly, Albion have scored less goals in the current campaign than they did in 2022 when they slumped to rock bottom under Steve Bruce.

After 15 games, Richard Beale was in temporary charge. One of the major problems was keeping goals out of the other end, something Corberan soon rectified when he came in.

2021/22 - 19 goals scored

Back in 2021, Albion were in a new era and had flown out of the traps. Unbeaten in ten, the highlight was a four goal thumping over Sheffield United as they rose to top spot under Valerien Ismael.

But as they crept towards the 15 game mark, the goals started to dry up and by the end of January Ismael had gone.

2019/20 - 28 goals scored

These go down as the more memorable campaigns for Albion. 

Slaven Bilic's Baggies were firing in goals from all angles, in fact by the time the 15 game mark came around they were nearly at 30.

Early on it was narrow victories or draws, but as the games went by they fired in fours against Huddersfield and Cardiff, and three crackers against Blackburn including a stunner from Grady Diangana.

2018/19 - 33 goals scored

Despite being sluggish at the back, Albion were potent going forward.

The attack of Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez was firing, and after 15 goals they had scored four at Norwich, and at home to Bristol City and Reading, as well as a 7-1 thumping of QPR.

The goals continued to flow all season, but their undoing was an inability to keep them out at the other end.

2009/10 - 29 goals scored

Prior to 2019, Albion's last spell in the Championship was way back in the 09/10 campaign, under Roberto Di Matteo.

After coming down from the top flight, Albion kept a lot of their big hitters and were unbeaten in their first eight games, drawing just two of them.

Roman Bednar and Luke Moore had started the season well, and with a relatively tight backline Albion sat second behind Newcastle after 15 games.

2007/08 - 31 goals scored

Regarded by many as one of the best Albion sides seen in the second tier, Tony Mowbray's outfit were just known around the division for goals.

With a front line of Bednar, Kevin Phillips and Ishmael Miller being supplied by the likes of Zoltan Gera and Robert Koren, it was a recipe for entertainment.

They would go on to stick four and five past teams - and in the end finished the season on 88 goals scored.

2006/07 - 27 goals scored

The start of this campaign was indifferent, as Bryan Robson was sacked.

But Albion were scoring regularly, in fact, between Robson going and Mowbray arriving Albion netted nine goals across two games against Leeds and Ipswich.

Then, like in typical fashion under Mowbray Albion were forward thinking throughout the campaign, netting a number of goals in some memorable victories.

2003/04 - 21 goals scored

After a 4-1 hammering to local rivals Walsall on the opening day - the goals began to flow for Gary Megson's side as they searched for an immediate return to the top flight.

Scott Dobie, Lee Hughes, Jason Koumas and Rob Hulse all provided the ammunition for some early season form. By the end of the season, they had only amassed 64 goals, but a tight rear guard saw them finish second.

2001/02 - 18 goals scored

Albion's famous promotion winning campaign back in 2001/02 was often played to the chant, '1-0 to the Albion'.

So it is no surprise the goals for column was not bulging throughout the season.

Dobie finished as the club's top goalscorer with just ten league goals and 12 in all competitions.

In total Albion scored just 61 goals, but their 29 conceded is the stat that got them up against all the odds. The side next on the list of goals conceded was Wolves with 43.

2000/01 - 18 goals scored

The previous season took on very much the same pattern as the one that followed.

They were on the same number of goals just 15 games in - and by the end of the campaign they had netted 60 times as they went on to lose in the play-offs to Bolton.

1999/2000 - 13 goals scored

You have to go back to 1999 to the last time Albion scored lower than the current total after 15 games.

Lee Hughes and Kevin Kilbane were the main goal threats but they were at a preminum in the early stages.

And it didn't really pick up under then boss Brian Little, who was sacked in March to be replaced by Megson.
