Hednesford Town appoint former player Gavin Hurren as manager
Hednesford Town have appointed former player Gavin Hurren as their first team manager to succeed Steve King.
The Pitmen announced Hurren's arrival on social media this morning following their 4-3 loss to Stalybridge Celtic on Tuesday night.
The new boss has said that he is hoping to "hit the ground running" and build a squad "capable of achieving" Hednesford's ambitious goals as the Pitmen currently sit 14th in the Northern One West table - five points adrift of the play-off places.
Hurren has stepped into the vacant position that was left by the dismissal of Steve King just days before the Pitmen’s FA Cup first round clash with Gainsborough Trinity earlier this month. Martin Hunter since took charge of the side on an interim basis following King's departure.
Rumours began circulating about Hurren's appointment last Sunday after he quit his managerial role at Stratford Town. The Pitmen boss will be joined by Lee Vaughan as his assistant manager.
Speaking on his appointment, the new boss said: "Hednesford Town is a club with a proud history and an incredible fanbase. I would like to thank Craig, Amanda and the Directors for giving me this opportunity, I am excited to now lead this team into a new era.
"With Lee and my backroom staff we have the expertise, passion, and drive to succeed at this level and beyond.
"We are eager to hit the ground running and connect with our supporters as we build a squad capable of achieving our ambitious goals.”
As a player, Hurren boasts experience with clubs including Kidderminster Harriers as well as Hednesford.
His assistant Vaughan also made more than 600 appearances in professional and non-league football with clubs including Tranmere Rovers, Cheltenham Town, and AFC Telford.
Hednesford visit Trafford this Saturday looking to bounce back from their midweek defeat to Stalybridge.
